Astrolabe
![]()
This is a navigational astronomical instrument used to measure the positions of the stars and the sun in order to calculate time and direction. Both faces of the main plate are engraved with constellations and time markings, and several disk-shaped plates recording star positions can be inserted in turn into the recessed groove at the center. Mounted on top are a rod-shaped sighting bar (alidade) that is rotated to aim at the stars and sun, and a T-shaped pin that holds it in place.
