This is a casket said to have been excavated from the Jangneung tomb of King Injong of Goryeo (r. 1122-1146). A foliate-shaped metal inner case and a rhombic outer case form a set: the outer case was made of relatively soft sandy mudstone, its surface finished with a white slip and then decorated with pigments such as cinnabar. The inner case was made of bronze, tin-plated on the outside to give it a silvery-white sheen, and divided into a stand, body, and lid for easy assembly. Its exact purpose is unknown, but it is an important source for studying royal funerary practices of the Goryeo period.
