Bronze Implement with Agricultural Patterns
![]()
Said to have been excavated in Daejeon, this farming-scene bronze survives only in its upper portion. In form it is a type of shield-shaped bronze, and the images on it suggest it was a ritual implement used in ceremonies related to farming. One face shows a man tilling a field with a hand plow, his head adorned with long feathers, alongside a figure raising a hoe and another placing something into a jar; the other face depicts a bird perched on the end of each of two forked branches. By rendering people, farming tools, and fields in abstract lines, it offers a vivid glimpse of agriculture and its rituals in the Bronze Age, making it a precious artifact.
