Celadon Pedestal
![]()
This celadon stand is said to have come from the tomb of King Injong of Goryeo. It has a square form with the top surface and each corner shaped like flower petals, and its jade-green glaze, smooth crackle-free surface, and neat shape mark it as a fine twelfth-century Goryeo celadon. Its exact purpose remains unknown, but because the pieces can be stacked and the slightly concave top could hold contents, it is thought to be a kind of multi-tiered covered box. Made under the influence of Chinese celadon, identical sherds have been found at the Sadang-ri kiln site in Gangjin, where the finest celadons of the period were produced.
