Hanging Incense Burner

A hanging censer consists of an oval body, a hemispherical lid pierced with holes, and a cloud-shaped handle. This censer was found at a temple site in Chungung-dong, Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, and censers of the same form have also been recovered from the Beopcheonsa site in Wonju and the Sanoesa site in Cheongju. Such hanging censers are thought to have been used in particular Buddhist rituals such as the Amitabha dharma assembly.
