Rubbing of the Stele for Daegakguksa at Yeongtongsa

This is a rubbing taken from the stele recording the achievements of State Preceptor Daegak (Uicheon), an eminent Hwaeom monk and the founder of the Cheontae school in Goryeo; the original stele stands at Yeongtong-sa in Kaesong. A wooden title slip bears a strip of paper inscribed "Yeongtong-sa Stele," and inside is an album of fifty-four leaves, each with six columns and generally ten characters per column. The first four leaves give the title of the stele, the next thirty-nine carry the text of the inscription, and after one blank leaf the remaining ten contain the record of the tomb chamber and the enshrinement of the inscription engraved on the back of the stele. The original stele, with a body 2.9 m high and 1.56 m wide, is designated North Korean Treasure-grade Cultural Property No. 35.
