The Shurangama Sutra explains the essentials of attaining liberation by freeing oneself from all afflictions; together with the Diamond Sutra, the Sutra of Perfect Enlightenment, and the Treatise on the Awakening of Mahayana Faith, it was among the scriptures Joseon monks studied in the course of their practice. Its full title is the Daebuljeong yeorae mirin sujeung youi jebosal manhaeng surangamagyeong, abbreviated as the Daebuljeong surangama or simply the Shurangama Sutra. This is the edition translated into Korean (Hangeul) and published by the Directorate for Buddhist Scripture Publication (Ganggyeong Dogam) in 1462 by order of King Sejo.
