White Porcelain Flask with Inlaid Peony and Butterfly Design
![]()
Joseon-period inlaid white porcelain comes in soft-paste and hard-paste types, and this flask is thought to be a soft-paste piece made at a regional kiln. Soft-paste white porcelain has a milky glaze and tends to develop a fine net-like crackle on the surface. Peony stems, blossoms, and butterflies are finely inlaid in black on the front and back, and the soft, gentle glaze with its apricot tinge gives it a feeling quite different from the cool, crisp hard-paste porcelain.
