This is a pottery figurine excavated from the Astana and Karakhoja tombs at Turfan. In the Tang period it was fashionable to wear "barbarian" (hu) dress and for women to ride horses, and such customs are reflected in figurines as well. The high topknot, the floral ornament (huadian) on the forehead, and the plump cheeks all reveal the characteristics of Tang-period images of women.
