Yejo Iban

This is a certificate issued by the Board of Rites (Yejo) in the twelfth month of 1885 (22nd year of King Gojong). It honors the filial conduct of Jeong Tae-gu and Jeong Dal-jin—the great-great-grandfather and great-grandfather of Jeong Won-bong, a scholar living in Gonyang, Gyeongsang Province—by erecting a memorial gate (jeongnyeomun) for them and exempting their descendants from miscellaneous corvee labor. When King Gojong made a procession in the eighth month of that year, Jeong Won-bong struck a gong to petition for his ancestors' commendation; after an investigation by the Board of Punishments the king granted it, and this document was thereby drawn up. At the end is the signature of the Minister of Rites, and the Board's official seals are stamped in several places.
